Wimbledon 8 Blog post

The history of the Wimbledon Eight

A little bit of background on Oliver Reed’s Wimbledon Eight Pub Crawl Print.

It’s reputed that on the night of this crawl (I think with Steve McQueen) Oliver Reed had been barred from The Castle.

Legend says he did the route twice, spending 15 minutes in each pub, and there’s supposedly a game called the Wimbledon 8 (the 8 symbol representing going round and round).

From an artistic point of view I felt it visually best to show active pubs which still had the same name, rather than showing one with its old name – it just felt weird (The Castle – now The Fire Stables). However, showing the pubs that have now gone, seemed to work stylistically. And I think the name Wimbledon Eight has a nice ring to it.

I do a few different pub posters and settling on the pubs to use is always tricky – my recent Pubs In Movies print being a good case in point.
