Prince Alfred

Could these be the customers of one of Carshalton’s long lost pubs in Mill Lane?

There’s always something fascinating about lost pubs. I’ve seen this group photo before, of men standing outside a pub. It’s often attributed to being at The Lord Palmerston in Carshalton.

Infact, I think this could have been taken further up Mill Lane at The Prince Alfred, which used to stand on the corner of Gurney Road.

The only other photo I’ve been able to find of the pub is the aerial view. If you look at the windows, style of tiles (different to The Lord Palmerston) and the row of houses in the background it seems to add up.

What do you think?

The pub closed circa 1928, with James and Mary Ann Cripps being the last publicans.
